Fearscape (Horrorscape, #1)
Fearscape by Nenia CampbellMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
He followed her because he wanted to own her. She trusted him because she wanted excitement. There's a saying that curiosity can kill … but Valerian Kimble is beginning to learn that satisfaction might just be worse.
Fourteen-year-old Valerian lives in an age where antiheroes and bad boys are portrayed as the romantic ideal, and good guys are passe and boring. So when Gavin Mecozzi, the school's brilliant but twisted loner, begins to show an interest in her after a chance meeting in a pet store, Val is intrigued. He's charming and poetic and makes her feel things that she thought were only possible in books--
Because somebody is stalking Val. Somebody who wants to hurt her. Own her. Possess her. Maybe even kill her.
As her meetings with Gavin unravel into a more complex and frightening relationship, Val can't help but wonder if the new boy in her life is her depraved and obsessive stalker.
And whether he's capable of murder.
Time is running out.

3 its-not-you-its-me stars.

How do I explain this book to you guys?
I have no idea how but I'll try to.
Just bear it,

So I liked the book
but I didn't love it.
Don't worry,
it's not the book,
it's me.

Somehow I've turned into a grumpy, moody and never satisfied reader lately, and the book was just one of my unlucky victims.

So, back to the book.

Valerian was a fourteen years old teenage girl in the book.

She was quite immature but innocent.
And very curious.
So she fell in love with Gavin.

“Curiosity can be a very dangerous thing, my dear.” ~ Gavin

Now, who's Gavin?

He was an eighteen years old senior at her school, a weird, psycho, and dangerous one at that.
And he had his eyes on her.

“I'm dangerous.”
“You are?”
She wet her lips. “Like, to me?”
“Especially you.”

So the two of them, they didn't work out well.
Not at all.

“You should run from me while you can.”
She was breathing too hard and to her chagrin it wasn't entirely from fear. “
“Or what?”
“I catch you.”

Threw in some recklessness, some persistence and some creepy accidents and you've got Fearscape !

Can you feel the ties that bind us? Can you feel them tightening? Because I can, and they're so tight that I can scarcely breathe.

“My, my. Such an idealist. You need to learn how to be more cold-blooded if you are to beat me at this game.”
“By being prepared to sacrifice everything, at any cost, in order to win.”

Lets see why I couldn't love the story.

i. My expectation: It was skyrocket high. Nope, strike that, it was so high that there's no measurement that could be compared to it. So totally my fault.

ii. The Romance: I knew the book wasn't a typical romance book, well it wasn't even a romance book in the first place, but since I was the epitome of ridiculousness, I couldn't help but craved for some true, real (or whatever it is called) romance, from the book. Seriously, I'm more twisted than the book itself!

iii. The writing: It just didn't work for me. Idk why, it just didn't.

You gave me quite the chase, didn't you? I'm quite impressed. Also, I must say this: you look even more appealing when you're afraid, so I'll let you run for now. ~ Gavin
