The Breakaway by Michelle Davidson Argyle

Posted by miss fifi at Thursday, November 29, 2012 0 comments

When Naomi Jensen is kidnapped, it takes her parents two days to realize she's missing. Escape isn't high on her list of priorities when all she has to return to is an abusive boyfriend and parents who never paid much attention to her. For the first time in her life she's part of a family-even if it is a family of criminals. But she's still a captive. In a desperate attempt to regain some control in her life, Naomi embarks on a dangerous plan to make one of her kidnappers think she's falling in love with him. The plan works too well, and when faced with the chance to escape, Naomi isn't sure she wants to take it.

Naomi got kidnapped, right after her boyfriend, Brad, hit her in the face. Her capturers kidnapped her because they thought she knew about the robbery they had done. Her capturers first thought about killing her but then decide to go against it and kept her as a captive in their house. At first they locked her in her room (but fed her) but after a few months, they became friendly enough with her to let her walked around in the house. She tried to seduce one of her capturers, Jesse, but they fell hopelessly in love with each other. She hated to admit it but she was happier with them than she ever had with her family. But then Jesse decided to let her go and reported the other capturers' robbery to the police. She returned to her family but missed them, especially Jesse, who went missing after turning her friends in. He became a wanted criminal. Four months later, she met him and he confessed that he loves her. He turned himself in although Naomi didn't want him to. She decided to wait for him.

Thoughts (spoiler aletrt):
I'll give this book five stars because it is so raspberrying awesome (okay I created the word 'raspberry' to replace my insulting cuss words lol Point of Retreat is my inspiration). The writing is easy to understand and it goes so deep into life as a captive. I hate violence and stuff but this book is quite okay for me because although the main character is kidnapped or captured or whatever-you-call-it against her will, they treated her quite better than her parents at times. If I was her, maybe I wouldn't try to leave like ever. lol I love the ending, it's perfect. She gets her family back and maybe her boyfriend back in the future? :)

But guess what? the ending is not my favorite part, but this is:

“Jesse,” she gasped, gripping him closer. “How can you be here? Are you really here?” He didn’t seem real. It had been four months since she had stepped out of his car. Four long, bittersweet months.
He looked into her eyes, but didn’t smile. “Yes, I’m really here.”

I am such a sucker for such cheesy reunions lol happy reading~

Goodread's summary:
A girl who believes trust can be misplaced, promises are made to be broken, and loyalty is an illusion. A boy who believes truth is relative, lies can mask unbearable pain, and guilt is eternal. Will what they find in each other validate their conclusions, or disprove them all?
When Jacqueline follows her longtime boyfriend to the college of his choice, the last thing she expects is a breakup two months into sophomore year. After two weeks in shock, she wakes up to her new reality: she's single, attending a state university instead of a music conservatory, ignored by her former circle of friends, and failing a class for the first time in her life.

Leaving a party alone, Jacqueline is assaulted by her ex's frat brother. Rescued by a stranger who seems to be in the right place at the right time, she wants nothing more than to forget the attack and that night--but her savior, Lucas, sits on the back row of her econ class, sketching in a notebook and staring at her. Her friends nominate him to be the perfect rebound.

When her attacker turns stalker, Jacqueline has a choice: crumple in defeat or learn to fight back. Lucas remains protective, but he's hiding secrets of his own. Suddenly appearances are everything, and knowing who to trust is anything but easy.

Lucas is fellow classmate of Jacqueline. She sucks at econ so she seeks help of a tutor, not knowing that Lucas is the tutor because she contacts him via email. The truth finally gets revealed but her teacher disapproves of the relationship because Lucas technically is a teacher too and relationship between students and teachers are forbidden. Lucas isn't mad that he was first considered a rebound.

The end:
They end up together

A Season of Eden

Goodreads' Summary:

A Season of Edenby J.M. Warwick, Jennifer Laurens (Goodreads Author)

He's my teacher. I shouldn't be alone with him. But I can't help that he's irresistible. I let the door silently close at my back. He stared at me, and a taut quiet stretched between us. "I like hearing you play," I said, moving toward him. He turned, in sync with my slow approach. He looked up at me but didn't say anything. I rested my clammy hand on the cold, slick body of the baby grand. "May I?" The muscles in his throat shifted, then he swallowed. "Eden." My knees weakened, like a soft tickling kiss had just been blown against the backs of them. "Is it okay?" I asked. His gaze held mine like two hands joined. He understood what I was really asking. "Let me stay," I said. "Please." "You're going to get me in trouble," he said.(less)

Eden is a famous girl in school, she approaches her teacher, Mr Christian, because she likes him. She even stalks him. Although at first Mr. Christian refuses to get close with her, he ends up going out with her for coffee. They don't do much, just talk and stuff. Their relationship is a secret from others till the end of the story. The end : Eden leaves high school but after a few months, she returns and meets Mr. Christian again.

My thoughts:

This is such a sweet love story. Although teacher-student relationship sounds heavy, the author manages to deliver it sweetly.

5 Stars~

About Me

Posted by miss fifi at Sunday, November 25, 2012 0 comments

I am just a boring small town girl and
I read books to cope with my pathetic life.
Nothing fun bout me,
but you might find some amusing things in the books I read.
I review books in the form of a rant.
If you're allergic to curse words,
stay away from my blog for your own sake.
Someone said I need to take a Happy Pill once,
so I guess I'm extremely rude and too sarcastic in my reviews.
Someone also said, I was blind when it comes to the quality of books,
so please expect some blind reviews too.
Read them at your own caution.

Miss Nobody.
